grandma's 100th

We had a family celebration today for grandma's 100th birthday (which happens on March 15th). She has seen more changes in her lifetime than I ever will. She is truly a remarkable woman. I love that she still has a twinkle in her eye at 100. She is everything you wish for in a grandma. I'm so happy that my brother's children get to know her too. Every memory growing up with grandma is great - from helping her pick fresh fruit and veggies from her beautiful garden, learning how to play cribbage, pool and darts, going to the strawberry patch and helping her make jam, riding the train in stanley park, watching cheesy shows like the Love Boat together every weekend, sitting on the counter and watching her do laundry by hand, endless bowls of porridge with her and grandpa, hundreds upon hundreds of cups of tea we've shared over the years, her incredible baking, putting her hair in rollers, or simply holding her hand - I adore every wrinkle, every smirk, she's amazing.

This is a living wall on our neighbourhood library. The swirling plant patterns reminded me of a dreamscape.

faster than a speeding train....

Before meeting up with friends, I picked up Craig from work earlier tonight on White Rock Beach. While waiting in the parking lot, I snapped a photo of a lit up tree. Within seconds the train came whizzing by.  I left the shutter open for a full minute and was amazed at how the train appears as nothing more than a brightly lit streak streaming past the tree. I felt lucky to be there, experiencing the beauty of that fleeting moment.

just around the corner

Bring on Spring! I can't wait until we get sun that lasts for more than a weekend. I can't wait to dress for one season instead of wearing so many layers that I look like the Michelin Man's lesser known sister. I took some floral photos today for two reasons:1) I desperately wanted to see splashes of colour again and 2) the photos that I planned to take at the harbour were brought to an abrupt end. In attempting to take a shortcut to said photo op locale, I slipped and fell down a grassy hill in my ridiculous wedgie-heeled shoes, which I discovered today are more of a "sitting shoe". No matter how cool you are (and believe me, I'm not saying I'm cool) - but the coolest person can't make slipping or tripping look cool. I hastily picked up my purse that had flown yards away from my body, picked up what little remained of my dignity and high tailed it back to the office with a soaking wet butt. So, even though it often doesn't look like it, some days I do give it my all for these 365 photos :)

I had a busy night: meeting up with our mortgage broker & doing taxes. That's right, a double shot of fun! It's amazing I didn't try to book a dental appointment too to round out the day. At 10:30 I realized I hadn't done my daily photo, so here it is, the shadow cast on our bedroom wall from our chandelier (of which I'm far too tired to swing from tonight). Sweet dreams! 

Harrison Hot Springs, British Columbia

We whisked out of town for a one night get away to Harrison Hot Springs. It's less than two hours from our home and is the perfect place to kick back and relax. We stayed at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort & Spa. As luck would have it, once they saw how tall my hubby is (6'5"), they upgraded us from a standard room (with a Queen bed) to a room facing the water with a King-sized bed (Yay!). Lakeside walks, delicious food, yummy martinis and soaking in the hot springs - it really was the perfect getaway. I hope you had an amazing weekend!
